SSD (Solid State Drive)
A solid-state drive (SSD) is a memory storage device that stores information in their instantly accessible memory chips. Basically, solid-state drive (SSD) is a type of non-volatile storage device used in computers/laptops. It helps a lot in data retrieving because it is faster storage device as compared to the hard disk drive. It allows you to not heat up the system.
Solid-state drive (SSD) replaces the old magnetics hard drives by flash-based memory which is faster than that traditional old hard drives. Older hard disk storage drives run slower, which turns into slower your PC. SSD play an important role in order to deal faster with the PC and their working criteria.
Benefits:
Following are some benefits of solid-state drive due to having no moving parts:
· Faster access time:
As it contains non-moving parts, that allows solid-state drive to access faster.
· Higher reliability:
It contains higher reliability than other hard drives.
· Noiseless operation:
SSD done their operation of storing with a minute amount of sound that making almost noiseless working storage device.
· Less power consumption:
It consumes less power consumption as compared to other hard drives.
Drawbacks:
Now, we will discuss some drawbacks of solid-state drive (SSD).
· Price:
The biggest drawback of solid-state drive is cost. SSD is expensive as compared to the other drives especially hard disk drive.
· Data recovery:
SSD doesn’t allow you to recover the loss old data. You can’t access the old data recovery. Although, it is a good characteristic in the point of view of security.
· Capacity:
Another drawback of the solid-state drive is the storage capacity. It doesn’t allow more storage capacity as compared to others drives. That’s why it is smaller and having affordable storage sizes.
HHD (Hybrid Hard Drive)
HHD stands for Hybrid Hard Drive. As the name suggested, it is the combination of solid-state drives and hard disk drives. HHD can be attach to a computer with two drives i.e., SSD and HDD simultaneously. Or it can be Solid-state hybrid drive (SSHD) that combines both SSD and HHD into a single device.
HHD is also known as solid-state hybrid drives (SSHD). This is because that the drive automatically caches data in the solid state for the files you use most, later offering more speed for them to access faster. It means that the technology combines the key attributes of both of the respective technologies.
Hybrid are Magnetic Drives with SSD storage:
Hybrid hard drive contains both old traditional magnetic drive with the amount of solid-state storage. Literally, it appears as a single drive to your operating system. The drive’s firmware manages the process that which files is goanna to which drives.
The SSD portion of the drive play its role as a cache that allows you to access your files frequently. It offers non-volatile memory that allows you to speed up the startup process while persisting across reboots.
The objective of this is to have access the files with the speed of solid-state drive, and provide the storage capacity of a magnetic drive for other files. All this is done by the drive that which files is goanna which drives.
Is a Hybrid (HHD) faster?
As we know that the hybrid hard drives are the combination of two technologies. So, it is obvious that it also contains both the merits and demerits of that technologies i.e., SSD and HDD. No doubt about that it is faster as compared to the other storage drives. However, hybrids hard drives are better in many aspects as compared to both technologies.
Merits:-
Following are some merits of HHD:
· Speed:
As the critical data and applications saved in a flash-based memory, so, it can be accessed instantaneously.
· Price factor:
Hybrid offers much lower cost than an actual SSD of a similar quality and capacity.
· Storage Capacity:
As hybrid is the combination of two technologies which allows the users to facilitate with the greater storage space.
Demerits:
Following are some demerits of HHD:
· Durability restricted by the HDD:
Hybrid storage doesn’t offer the same level of protection against physical damage as SSDs. This is because the HDD portion still contains its characteristics i.e., moving parts.
